About

Hello! My name is Mrs. McManus and I am currently teaching 9th grade English Language Arts. I have about fifteen years of experience in classrooms ranging from 6th to 12th grade. I have always been the kind of teacher to make my own resources. I like to figure things out and make them work on my own.

I decided to start sharing these resources a few years ago. I cannot tell you the number of times I looked up, “how to help older students comprehend,” in various search engines, only to never really find anything very helpful. Through a lot of research, trial and error and figuring things out, again on my own, I found things that worked for my students and knew that I needed to share them with any of the secondary educators who were in the same position that I was in.

This lead me to the Science of Reading research. I am truly passionate about empowering fellow teachers with knowledge of Science of Reading. The biggest takeaway that I have had from researching science of reading is that structures and systems are so important.

These structured lesson plans and activities help to breathe life into the, often monotonous, English Language Arts curricula that we are told to teach in our classes, while also providing the systems that our students need to become proficient readers.  Let’s transform our classrooms into hubs of knowledge and creativity together!

I absolutely love to brainstorm with other educators. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram or email me at allison@mrsmcmanusela.com
